An existing breast pad machine could not satisfy growing production demands, and so a new machine was required, not just to increase the production capacity, but also to provide more control over the production process. Such machines cannot be bought “off the shelf”: it was necessary, therefore, to develop a special purpose machine, which would meet these new requirements.
