Series 1300 and 1500 frives from IRT Quin extends support for legacy IRT motor drives

Helping plants ride out the credit crunch by extending the life of older drives and easing the migration to newer technology

Quin Systems is helping its customers through the tough economic climate by lowering the cost of investment in new drive technology. The company has announced the establishment of a repair and migration service to support machine builders and plants using legacy 1300 and 1500 series IRT drives. The new service extends Quin’s long-standing status as UK distributor and technical support organisation for Switzerland-based IRT SA, which manufactures servo drives for DC, brushless and asynchronous motors.

Explains Quin managing director Mike Webb: “Some 200000 IRT units are in use throughout the world, many of them the reliable 1300 and 1500 series drives introduced over 10 years ago. We recognise that the credit crunch is putting customers off replacing these older drives. Quin’s response is to set up a repair operation for companies who wish to extend the service of their legacy drives; and alongside this, we are introducing packages to lower the cost of upgrading to the latest IRT technology.

Quin’s upgrade packages include drive and adapter cables, which will work with the existing control system and motor, so providing a cost-effective solution.

The latest IRT 2000/4000 series of digital drives operates from single phase, 230V, or 415V three-phase supplies, providing 3A to 30A duty. Expansion boards enable simple synchronisation and positioning, and the units are compatible with a wide choice of feedback devices including resolvers, encoders, Hiperface® and EnDat® interfaces.
