QDrive offers intelligent motion control for smaller applications
Quin Systems has introduced a mini QDrive designed specifically
for 100-230V AC single-phase connection, for motors with a continuous
rating of up to 4A. This new drive provides smaller applications
with the full intelligent functionality of a larger QDrive - bringing
true motion control to the smaller application or where 3-phase
supply is not available.
Measuring 74mm wide, 210mm deep and just 220mm high, the new unit
is not only the most compact QDrive, it is also the lowest-priced.
Cost reduction is made possible because the design specifications
eliminated the need for a cooling fan or heat sink, as well as
three-phase connections. Nevertheless it does include an EMC filter
and soft-start circuitry is an option. It is rated for 8A-peak
current to ensure ruggedness and reliability.
As with the rest of the QDrive family, the new intelligent drive
combines an advanced DSP digital servo drive with a powerful Quin
Programmable Transmission System (PTS) motion controller. The digital
signal processor chip delivers high bandwidth closed-loop performance,
whilst a second processor provides full motion and logic control
with analogue and digital I/O.
QDrives can be used with virtually any make of AC brushless servo
motor, and are also configurable for use with AC induction motors
having full flux vector control. Resolver feedback comes as standard
with encoder feedback options available.
A CANbus interface provides full synchronisation between the Mini
QDrive and other QDrives or compatible modules - either in a
peer-to-peer configuration (Synchrolink) or via SERVOnet, using
a central Machine Manager. Quin will shortly be introducing the
QManager to manage the programming, co-ordination and diagnostics
of SERVOnet networks, and to serve as a gateway to Fieldbus and
Ethernet networks. The Mini QDrive has onboard digital and analogue
I/O, two serial ports, and a Modbus interface option.
Set up and tuning is via the PTS software suite, which features
powerful Windows-based tools for diagnostics, motion generation,
configuration and graphical tuning. Its large library of standard
machine functions includes registration, tension, gearing, cams
and even more complex algorithms.
The built-in PTS Scope software gives users comprehensive machine
diagnostics such as current and velocity loops, and even drive
temperature. What is more, the scope can be operated via an Internet
connection, enabling machines to be supported anywhere in the world.
