Quin combines economy with versatility in two-axis control

November 2005

A versatile and exceptionally cost-effective choice for both standalone and networked motion control systems, the new QControl 2 two-axis servo controller from Quin combines high-speed processing and full support for IEC 61131-3-compliant programming with on-board Ethernet and expansion for fieldbus communication.

The QControl 2 offers the choice of Quin PTS or QLC (IEC) programming environments. The QLC allows the user to programme full motion control in a PLC-type language. The Quin library offers over 100 motion function blocks to provide the flexibility needed to develop even complex applications easily and quickly. In conjunction with the real-time communications facilities of QControl 2, it also provides powerful remote diagnostics which allow users to evaluate and often correct problems without having to make costly site visits.

Typical applications for the new controllers, which are housed in a compact DIN-rail mounting module, include printing, die cutting, packaging, web tension control and register control on wrapping machines. They are also ideal for XY positioning in pick-and-place, pattern cutting and similar applications.

A particularly attractive option is to combine the QControl 2 with the company's recently introduced Compact QDrive, to produce high-performance, low-cost two-axis systems with full networking capability . It also provides owners of existing systems with an attractive upgrade path - fitting a QControl 2, brings performance up to current standards without the expense of having to replace the drives and motors.

QControl 2 also supports Quin's SERVOnet motion control bus, which allows system expansion by adding further SERVOnet-enabled products. The functionality of the new controllers can also be extended by adding optional support for popular fieldbus systems, such as DeviceNet and Profibus, making them easy to integrate with virtually any modern automation installation.
