Packing bags in cases with servo driven case packer

Case packing on-edge bags and stand up pouches

Mike Webb is MD of Quin Systems

Machinery Update has interviewed Mike Webb, our MD, about recent developments in our case packing capability to improve productivity and presentation when packing on-edge bags and stand up pouches. Growth in demand for these bags stems in part by the desire for high on shelf visibility as the large flat front of a pouch can be used to advertise a product.

Recent case packing developments at Quin Systems include the launch of our patented vertical infeed system, development of the optimum picking head and research into how best to present the product to the picking head.

“Infeed is key to a successful end of line operation and we have modified our existing system to handle stand up pouches, doypacks, stabilo and pillow packs.” Mike Webb, MD Quin Systems.

This new infeed system is now in operation on a system installed at a food manufacturer that uses stabilo packs and pouches for their products.

Productivity increases with robotic case packer

UK productivity figures are frequently in the news, with the BBC recently reporting that we are, on average, 30% less productive per hour than workers in Germany, the US and France and 10% less than the average Italian. Lack of investment is often cited as a factor for our low productivity. In this context I was delighted to read the Project Profile of Synergy Health in Packaging News which described how productivity improvements were made following an investment, made in 2007, to eliminate waste and inconsistency by automating a manual case packing operation with a robotic case packer from Quin Systems. This was part of a wider investment in their production capabilities. Continue reading
